Your Journey Home
🇿🇦 While in South Africa
Join us in South Africa, a country of breathtaking beauty, powerful history, and extraordinary resilience. For many African American travelers, South Africa offers a meaningful opportunity to connect with a story of struggle, survival, resistance, and triumph that deeply resonates with our own. Through the history of apartheid and the continued strength of its people, South Africa reminds us of the power of community, courage, identity, and hope. Afro Discoveries invites travelers to experience South Africa beyond sightseeing through culturally immersive experiences that engage visitors with local people, heritage sites, food, music, storytelling, contemporary African culture, and meaningful community connections.
While in Cape Town
Cape Town offers a stunning blend of natural beauty, layered history, and vibrant culture. Travelers will experience the majesty of Table Mountain, explore the colorful and historic Bo-Kaap neighborhood, and visit Robben Island, the former prison where Nelson Mandela and other anti-apartheid leaders were held. We will also visit the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, a world-class museum dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. In Cape Town, the experience is both reflective and breathtaking, inviting travelers to engage with South Africa’s history while also witnessing its creativity, coastal beauty, cuisine, and cultural richness.

While in Joburg
Johannesburg carries a different energy: bold, historic, urban, and deeply rooted in the ongoing story of South Africa’s freedom struggle. Here, travelers will visit the powerful Apartheid Museum, which offers an unforgettable look at the system of apartheid and the people who resisted it. We will also spend time in Soweto, one of South Africa’s most significant townships, and walk Vilakazi Street, known for its connection to Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, and the legacy of resistance. Johannesburg offers a dynamic window into South Africa’s past and present through history, music, food, local communities, and contemporary African life.
